On March 1st, an inspiring gathering took place at the Absolutely Anything Essential Gift Shop. We hosted our 1st annual Love Her Well, Wellness & Resource Fair. Moderated by Chan, the founder of Still + Flame, the panel discussion featured key contributions from Roynne Sharpe, Bianca Cotton, and Princella Lee. This event was all about understanding what it means to "Love Her Well," focusing on women's health, wellness, and the importance of self-care.
The fair created an atmosphere filled with community spirit and empowerment, allowing participants to engage fully with speakers and various available resources.
The Panel Discussion
The highlight of the day was the panel discussion led by Still + Flame Apothecary's Founder Chan. Each panelist provided a unique viewpoint, enriching the conversation around women’s wellness.
Panelist shared personal stories that resonated deeply with the audience. They encouraged every woman present to invest in her health and to advocate for herself in all aspects of life. This empowering dialogue inspired attendees to reflect on their well-being and consider the support systems they have—and perhaps need—in their lives.
Health Screenings Provided by All Things Health
Health screenings took center stage at the fair with offerings by All Things Health. Attendees had the chance to get crucial health checkups, including:
Blood pressure monitoring
B12 injections
These screenings were not just convenient; they were essential for women aiming to take proactive steps in their health journeys. Statistics show that nearly 50% of women in the U.S. are unaware of their risk for heart disease, making awareness through these screenings vital.
The All Things Health team made sure that participants felt at ease and informed about the importance of the screenings. They provided educational materials to help attendees understand their results clearly, along with guidance on next steps based on individual health needs.
Stress Assessments by Chicago Well Med
Another crucial service offered at the fair was stress assessments provided by Dr. Simmons of Chicago Well Med. With stress being linked to conditions like anxiety and heart disease, the assessments were instrumental in helping women identify their stress levels and learn effective management techniques.
Resources from Aetna, Equal Hope, and South Side Healthy Community Organization
The wellness fair was not only a platform for screenings and assessments; it also showcased a variety of resources from organizations like:
Aetna: Offering guidance on health insurance options to ensure women access the care they need.
Equal Hope: Sharing programs aimed at closing health disparities, helping minority women access vital health resources.
South Side Healthy Community Organization: Highlighting community initiatives that promote healthy living and local resources supporting women's health.
OSF Health
Boss Sistah Outreach
These organizations played a vital role in empowering women on their health journeys. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort to promote women's health, ensuring attendees left with valuable resources and connections.
Community Engagement and Networking
The fair created a vibrant space for community engagement. Attendees had ample opportunities to connect, share experiences, and build relationships beyond the event’s duration. The camaraderie was evident as participants exchanged stories and insights, fostering a supportive community atmosphere.
The networking aspect of the event made clear the importance of collaboration. Together, participants discussed their health goals, shared self-care tips, and motivated each other to pursue well-being passionately.
